A European Reality

EAPS is a European alternative to the global card schemes and is gaining in strength through consistently increasing acceptance and deployment volume.  As a European payment framework, EAPS is unique when compared to other initiatives, as it is already operational and facilitating a significant number of ATM and POS transactions across Europe.  

In 2010, payment schemes participating in EAPS were responsible for more than nine billion ATM and POS transactions.  EAPS participants represent more than 222 million cards, 2.2 million POS terminals and almost 200,000 ATMs.   Around two million cross border transactions took place under the EAPS framework during 2010 and EAPS transaction volumes are expected to increase in the following years.
